MOUNT KILIMANJARO TREKKING:
   
MACHAME ROUTE: (7 Days Trekking + 1 Day Arusha N/Park + 3 Nights in Arusha)
   
Day 1  Arrival Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

 

Met on arrival at Kilimanjaro airport. Transfer to hotel in Arusha for overnight.

Day 2  Arusha National Park

 

Today, we spend time in Arusha, by doing game drives and hiking in the nearby Arusha National Park. This day will help us to get over jet lag as well as adjust to a new weather.

We will also introduce you to your mountain guide for a climb orientation and equipment check.

Day 3  Arusha ~ Machame
  Elevation Gain: 4,900 ft; Distance: approx. 11 miles; Time: 6 -7 hours

 

After breakfast, we leave Arusha (3,740ft) for Machame gate at 8:30am. After registration at the park’s gate (4,850ft), we start the ascend to Machame camp (9,750ft) through the dense mountain forest.

Day 4  Machame ~ Shira
  Elevation Gain: 2,850ft;  Distance: approx. 6 miles; Time: 5 - 6 hours.                

 

We continue with our trek  along the steep ridge going on to rock ridges and through heather.  The route turns west into a river gorge to Shira (12,600ft).

Day 5  Shira ~ Baranco
 

Elevation Gain: 2,500ft;  Distance: approx. 9 miles; Time: 6 -7 hours.

 

Today, we will continue with our climb, uphill past Lava Tower (15,100ft), and slowly trek downhill to the Baranco Camp (12,960ft).

Day 6  Baranco ~ Karanga Valley
  Elevation Gain: 250ft (we will gain more by hiking higher);  Distance: approx. 4 miles; Time: 3~4 hours.

 

After a short descent into the Gorge, we will climb its eastern wall where we will enjoy views of Kilimanjaro's ice fields. We will continue trekking until we reach our camp in Karanga Valley (13,200ft).

Day 7  Karanga Valley ~ Barafu
  Elevation Gain: 1,750ft (we will gain more by hiking higher);  Distance: approx. 4 miles; Time: 3~4 hours

 

A short trek today will take us to Barafu Camp (14,950ft). The temperature starts to get colder and air thinner. We will spend this day to climb a little higher so as to acclimatize well, and then come back to the Camp before mid night wake up to attempt the summit.

Day 8  Barafu ~ Summit ~ Mweka
 

Elevation Gain: from Barafu to Uhuru

4,390ft ;  Distance: approx. 4 miles; Time: 6~7 hours

   
  Elevation Loss: from Uhuru to Mweka Camp

9,240ft ;  Distance: approx. 14 miles; Time: 6~7 hours

 

We will wake up at about 12:30am, and after a warm tea/biscuits, we will begin our trekking, passing between the Rebmann and Tarzel glaciers to the rim at Stella Point. We will summit the Uhuru Peak (19,340ft) at about 7am or so, then descend to Mweka Camp (10,100ft).

Day 9  Mweka ~ Arusha
  Elevation loss: 3600 ft Distance: approx. 8 miles Time:  3 - 4 hours.

 

Descend steeply through forest on a narrow path along the crest on a broad ridge between two river valleys down to Mweka gate (6,500ft). A waiting vehicle will take you to Arusha for overnight.

Day 10  Departure / Go on a Safari
